Whisper AI Emerges Victorious as Hult Prize LASU Crowns a New Generation of Unlimited Disruptors

WhisperAI leads a standout 2026 Hult Prize LASU finale after months of mentorship, demo-day refinement, and a fiercely competitive showcase of social innovation.

A charged finale for LASU innovators

The atmosphere at Lagos State University was electric on February 27, 2026, as the Hult Prize On-Campus program reached its grand finale. Following months of intensive training, mentorship, and a rigorous Demo Day in January, 21 student-led teams took to the stage to prove that LASU remains a powerhouse for social entrepreneurship and innovation.

Under the global theme of "Unlimited," this year’s competition challenged students to push the boundaries of conventional business, tasking them to build social enterprises that are not only profitable but also possess the limitless potential to solve the world’s most pressing social issues.

A stronger pipeline of ventures

The 2026 program saw a significant leap in the quality of student ventures. With a total reach of over 70 students, the event highlighted a growing culture of problem-solving on campus and confirmed that the Hult Prize LASU platform is nurturing bolder founders every cycle.

To ensure the highest standard of competition, the panel of judges consisted of industry veterans and former winners, including Adewole Samuel, Hult Prize Rwanda 2018 National Winner, Olawuyi Gideon, former Campus Director and Youth Leader, and Ajose Sotin, Chief Marketing Officer at Beenga Nigeria. Technical feasibility, a crucial metric for this year’s tech-heavy entries, was meticulously assessed by lead developer Marvellous Alexa.

The Champion: WhisperAI

Taking the top spot and securing its place in the upcoming National and Regional rounds is WhisperAI. Aligning with SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure — WhisperAI addresses a critical gap in the artificial intelligence sector: the need for persistent memory and grounded context.

While many AI products struggle with consistency in production, WhisperAI provides the infrastructure necessary for AI to deliver reliable, context-aware answers. The judges were particularly swayed by the team’s commercial traction. Unlike many early-stage concepts, WhisperAI is already in the market and generating revenue, proving that LASU students are ready to compete in the global tech economy.

Other standout teams

The competition for the runner-up positions was historically tight, with two teams standing out for their unique approaches to modern challenges.

Hamduk Chess Labs, also championing SDG 9, tackled the niche but vital world of competitive integrity by creating advanced anti-chess-cheating software. With a very solid business plan and a clear target market, the team demonstrated how technology can safeguard fair play.

Pathwise AI fit perfectly into the framework of SDG 4, Quality Education, and SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth. The platform guides high school students toward careers that match their backgrounds and helps university students transition from theoretical courses to stable employment. Its focus on local career clarity ensures that Nigerian graduates find opportunities tailored to the realities of the local market.

What comes next

The conclusion of the On-Campus event is only the beginning. The winning team, WhisperAI, is now entering an internal acceleration phase facilitated by the Hult Prize LASU organizing committee to refine its pitch and operations for the next round of the global competition.

"The caliber of pitches this year was significantly higher than we’ve seen previously," noted Olawuyi Gideon, previous Campus Director and Youth Leader. Campus Director Ashiru Sheriffdeen Olanrewaju added that the quality of innovation produced this year will be a strong contender at the National level.
